Community council behind defibrillator boost
Residents of Braehead and Broomridge have been given an early gift which should give them peace of mind this Christmas and beyond.
Braehead and Broomridge Community Council have funded two public access defibrillators as well as organised for a defibrillator at a community hall to be used by the public.
Working in partnership with St John’s
Scotland, a charity dedicated to saving and enhancing life, the defibrillators are located at: Braehead Convenience store (Naveed’s) on Springfield Road (on the side of building opposite the car park); at Broomridge Mini Market on Wishart Drive; and at the Crawford Hall, Colquhoun St (at the entrance to the main hall).
A defibrillator is a device that gives a highenergy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest and is an essential part in trying to save the life of someone who’s in cardiac arrest.
A community council spokesperson said: “Should someone need to use the defibrillators dial 999 and ask for an ambulance. The operator will give you the code to access the defibrillator. Open the bag and press the green button on the kit and follow the computer’s instructions.
“Once it is safe to do so we’ll be arranging CPR and defibrillator training with support from St John’s Scotland.
“A big thanks to Naveed Akhtar at Braehead Convenience Store, David Brown at Boomridge Mini Market and Dougie and Esther Brown at the Crawford Hall for allowing the defibrillators to be sited at their premises and St John’s Scotland for providing the kit and advice.”
