SWANSWATER FISHERY

The weather turned colder this week with overnight frost midweek. With the new level 4 restrictions in place, fewer anglers were visiting the fishery but many of those who did landed at least one fish.

The fish were a bit deeper this week, mostly to be found around five feet down as the water temperature dropped to around 5 Centigrade. Blues, Golds and Rainbows were all featuring in the returns with anglers remarking on the great condition of all the fish. Favourite fly patterns this week included Fab, Dancer, Blob, Ally Mccoist, Damsel, Buzzer and Bloodworm with the most successful colours being black, black and orange, or black and green. On the bait pond, green or orange power bait took most of the fish.

The fishery is open every day from 8am to 4pm, apart from Thursday, when it closes at 2.30pm.

On the fly pond, some of the better bags included: Charles Findlater, in two visits, five for 15lb 12oz, including 4lb 8oz Rainbow and a Gold, plus four C&R; Robert Park three for 9lb; David Brodie three for 8lb; Kyle Crossan three for 7lb including a Gold; Barry Lee two for 5lb from the Millpond including a Gold; Robert Mccoll caught and released 11; David Devine caught and released seven; Kenny Halley caught and released four; George Mccallum caught and released four; Rab Cochrane caught and released three; Darren Clelland caught and released three; George Mccallum caught and released two including a Rainbow estimated at over 10lb.

On the bait pond, many were just catching one fish but a couple of anglers did a bit better. William Wells, in three visits, 8 for 17lb including 2 Golds; PJ Morgan three for 7lb 8oz including 3lb 8oz Rainbow.
