A frosty Christmas morning

Last week was mild for this time of year with a maximum temperatur­e of 12.5 Centigrade and it stayed above freezing all week with a low of 3 Centigrade.

It was a damp week with rain recorded on every day with over two inches of rain for the week. Blustery conditions especially over the weekend ended what was an unsettled week with very little sunshine.

The maximum daily rainfall was 12.7mm on Sunday, December 13, for a weekly total of 52.33mm.

Wind speeds topped 38mph on Friday, December 18.

Looking at the week ahead, colder conditions will affect the area midweek with daytime temperatur­es around 3 Centigrade on Wednesday and Christmas Eve with overnight frosts as temperatur­es drop to -3 Centigrade.

On those days it should remain dry with some sunny intervals. Christmas Day is set to begin frosty and cold but the daytime temperatur­e is set to increase to around 7 Centigrade. Although overcast Christmas Day should remain mostly dry. Rain at times will affect us on Boxing Day and into Sunday and it will remain showery into next week which could turn wintry at times. Wind will remain calm during the week but will increase over the weekend.

The latest sunrise will be 8.48am with the earliest sunset at 3.42pm.

Did You Know – Daylight has already started to last longer in the evenings and this week will see us reach the latest sunrise time of the year 8.48am as from next week daylight will begin earlier in the mornings.
