Golf trophies delivered just in time for Christmas

STIRLING

On Saturday, December 19, a fun Five-club Christmas Competition was arranged for those members fortunate enough to book one of the spaces available. A few

members would have preferred four-balls but with daylight hours becoming ever scarcer and rain forecast for the day, it was decided to keep to the seven-eight minute intervals as three-balls and allow more members the opportunity to play.

Members eventually took on the wet and slippery course conditions to win one of five Sainsbury’s £20 vouchers donated by Andy Aitken.

The poor playing conditions, however, did not prevent Colin Griffin from returning a gross outward half score of 38 after a double bogey six at the 9th for a net score of 30 at the turn. Colin went on to drop a stroke at both the 11th and 12th before completing this 14-hole competition with a par three for a gross 59, reduced by his Handicap their families, and friends. Please take care, stay healthy, and have a Merry Christmas and a Happier New Year.

A number of prizewinners from Stirling Golf Club’s 2020 season have recently picked up their trophies.

Covid restrictions meant there was no official awards night so trophy winners have been collecting prizes over the past few weeks. Collecting trophies were : Jimmy Cooper Trophy winner John Johnstone (Fleck); Queen Victoria Jubilee winner Derek Anderson; King George V Trophy winner Barry Paterson; 150th Salver Handicap winner Harry Gardner and Wednesday Medal (Class 2) Alan Greenhorn.

BRIDGE OF ALLAN

The winter season continued last weekend and despite the recent constant downpours the course has been holding up really well with half the summer course still in operation.

Scoring continued to be exceptional and in Friday’s Senior Gents Nine-hole Stableford, John Wilson just pipped Jimmy Mckenzie on a countback to claim first place, both players scoring 22 points. Raymond Aimer was third being the best of a group of players that all scored 21 points. Gordon Darlington leads the way in the Senior Gents Winter Order of Merit.

On Saturday, a culmination of mild calm conditions, sort course, and the initial impacts of the new World Handicap Indexes, led to some unbelievable scores being returned. First place on the day went to Phil Wallom who despite not scoring at one hole returned an incredible 47 points.

Second place with another incredible score of 46 points went to Brian Paterson, with Neil Douglas taking third place on 42 points. Douglas Gebbie still leads the way in the Mccallum Rosebowl Order of Merit.
