Fireworks ring in the bells of 2021

-

The new year started with a bang as the skies above Stirling were lit up with the annual Hogmanay fireworks display.

The iconic Wallace Monument was the chosen location for the city’s fireworks spectacular as residents were urged to watch from the comfort of their own home in the fight against Covid-19.

BBC Scotland aired the display to audiences nationwide. A special soundtrack from the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, showcasing music from legendary Scottish artists including Texas, Calvin Harris, Lewis Capaldi, Annie Lennox, Emeli Sande, and Dougie Maclean, serenaded the firework display.

Convener of Stirling Council’s community planning and regeneration committee, Councillor Chris Kane, said:“our fireworks display provided a spectacular and safe way for people across Scotland to ring in the bells from the safety of their own living rooms.

“The spectacle of the fireworks lighting up the

Wallace Monument was the centre of the display sky above the National Wallace Monument was truly a sight to behold, and it was fantastic that the whole nation was able to enjoy this amazing experience thanks to it being screened live by BBC Scotland.”

For Stirling residents the fireworks display was the climax to a digital entertainment programme that was beamed directly into people’s living rooms via a variety of Stirling Council venue social media platforms and Stirlingevents.org.

A family friendly virtual concert showcased a variety of performers with a strong connection to the Stirling area, including performances by folk band Gnoss, pop singer Alix Muir, harpist Sarah Macneil, young musicians Sadie and the Wolves, and the Feis Fort Players.

The digital delights also showcased local Stirling residents who went above and beyond in their commitment to their community, the arts or charity during 2020.
