Hotel guest leaves £2k bottle of whisky

- STUART MCFARLANE

One high-flying Stirling hotel guest was almost left red-faced after leaving behind a precious amber cargo worth thousands of pounds.

The business executive was staying in the city’s Travelodge hotel when he departed without a £2,000 bottle of single malt whisky - forcing him into a mad scramble to get his hands back on the expensive tipple.

Eventually, the CEO’S assistant was sent back up from London to the hotel to return the whisky back to its relieved owner.

The details of the incident comes as the hotel chain reveal a list of the most exotic items to be left behind at its branches in the last year.

As well as the Stirling whisky, a Travelodge hotel on Perth A9 saw a magician misplace his top hat and bunny rabbit named Thumper; while a wedding groom was awoken from his slumber at the company’s Dundee site to marry an increasingly concerned bride.

Shakila Ahmed, spokeswoman for Travelodge, said: “With millions of customers annually staying at our 47 hotels across the length and breadth of Scotland for thousands of different reasons, we do get a range of interesting items left behind.

“This year, as we kept some of our hotels open in Scotland during both lockdowns to support local communities and provide accommodation for key workers, local authorities and for businesses that could travel for work we have seen a rise in items being left behind by medical professionals.

“This includes a doctor’s bag filled with diagnostic equipment, scrubs and crocs plus lots of personalised face masks.

“When it comes to why so many of our customers forget their treasured items, it’s basically due to us all being time poor, juggling multiple tasks and being in a hurry to get from A to B. In the rush, valuable possessions are easily forgotten.”
