Inmate dies after being stabbed in neck

A prisoner slashed during an attack at Glenochil Prison has died.

Dean Ramsay was targeted at the Clackmanna­nshire prison on Saturday morning after an incident involving another prisoner.

Ramsay, from Maryhill, Glasgow, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but it’s understood he lost his fight for life on Monday night.

Prison sources said Dean, known as Deano, was slashed then stabbed in the neck.

The source said:“there was some sort of argument then Deano went to his cell and he was attacked there.”

Initiall, a Police Scotland spokeswoma­n said:“around 11.30 am on Saturday, January 9, 2021, police were called after a man was found seriously injured within Glenochil Prison,

Clackmanna­nshire.

“He was taken by ambulance to Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert, where medical staff describe his condition as critical. Enquiries into how he came about his injuries are ongoing.”

A Scottish Prison Service spokesman confirmed an incident had taken place, but declined to comment due to the ongoing police investigat­ion.

Detective Inspector David Macgregor of Forth Valley Division CID said:“police Scotland can confirm that a 30-year-old man has now died at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert following an incident within HMP Glenochil on Saturday, January 9, 2021.

“Investigat­ions into the incident are ongoing at this time. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
