Heather backs cancer charity
Dunblane golfer Heather Macrae has teamed up with Scottishpower to celebrate the energy giant raising £30 million for Cancer Research UK.
The Scottish women’s WPGA champion and PGA professional knows all too well the importance of raising money for the cancer charity’s work.
Aged just 35, her world was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Last June, Heather was in a wheelchair having just undergone a hysterectomy and, against all odds, she competed in the Women’s
PGA Cup in Texas five months later - an incredible example of power and determination and a reason why she’s celebrating Scottishpower’s milestone.
Scottishpower launched their partnership with Cancer Research UK in 2012 with the aim of raising £5 million in three years.
Now, just eight years later, they have smashed this target and raised an incredible £30m to help fund life-saving research.
The vital funds have been generated through a wide-range of creative initiatives and events including sponsorship of Race for Life, Shine Night Walk and Stand Up To Cancer campaigns, employee and supplier fundraising as well as creating bespoke‘help Beat Cancer’energy tariffs, where Scottishpower donates to Cancer Research UK for every month the customer stays on the tariff.
Heather said:“in a year of uncertainty and unknown, it’s vital that we don’t lose sight of the importance of fundraising for life changing charities like Cancer Research UK.
“The work it does every day to help people like me is so important and that’s why I’m honoured to be working with Scottishpower to help celebrate reaching this momentous fundraising target - a true testament to the determination of employees, suppliers and customers who have all done their bit.”
