Writing trio of books in lockdown was a thrill
A Stirling man who turned to writing fiction in lockdown has published his first three novels in the space of a year.
For former Wallace High School pupil Grant Mcpherson writing had been an occasional hobby, but the last 12 months gave him the opportunity to focus on it full time.
As a result he has written and self-published the mystery thrillers ‘The Quartermaster’, ‘Parthian Shot’ and ‘Loose Ends.’
Fifty-nine-year-old Grant, a retired major project director for SSE, said: “I’d thought about turning some of my scribbles into finished books for years and when lockdown came I realised I had run out of excuses. I thought, if not now, then when?
“Until last year I had been writing mostly when I was away on business and bored in hotels.
“It was never meant to be a serious career and, really, I just wanted to ‘write a book’.
“It was relaxing to just scribble stuff down, without any thoughts of getting things published.
“I only decided to hunt out the old, hand-written notes about a year or so ago, when I realised that it would be a possible thing to enjoy and take up time when spending lots of time at home.
“I found I enjoyed it and one thing led to another.”
Grant, from Causewayhead, is not exactly sure where the ideas for his books come from, but added: “I’m a great reader and I’ve got thousands of books. Strangely I don’t read much fiction, but I’m interested in business, economics, history, world affairs, walking, birdwatching, golf, lots of things.”
And there is no sign of him lacking any inspiration for future projects.
Grant said: “I’m going to selfpublish more. I’ve got four more books written in draft and am currently trying to polish them up.
“It has been something to focus on. Personally, I think it has been well worth it, although I suppose that’s up to the readers to judge!”
