Repair works in Main Road
A main route through Doune had to be closed this week after a water pipe burst.
The leak occurred in Main Street on Monday evening, forcing water chiefs to close the road.
During the repairs, workers then discovered a collapse beneath the road surface and began an immediate programme of repairs.
A Scottish Water spokesperson said:“during our excavations we discovered a cavity below the road surface and some damage on the other side of road away from the excavation. To ensure the safety of our customers and our teams working on site, we made the decision to close the road.”
The spokesperson added:“due to the nature of the reinstatement works, our contractor visited the site on Tuesday morning to assess and arrange materials required to get this reinstated properly. The road was tarred on Wednesday morning, and to allow time for this to set, we expect the road closure will be lifted at 6pm on Wednesday.
“We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience during this time to allow these urgent repairs to be carried out.”
Alison Mcalpine, of Kilmadock Community Council, said:“the problem was obviously quite serious, but the engineers all worked efficiently getting the repair made as quickly as possible.
“This is such a busy part of the Main Street in Doune, and the diversions were put in place almost immediately to assist with traffic flow.
“At this point the new tar has been laid and hopefully will set within a few hours.”
