CALEDONIAN MARTS THURSDAY, JANUARY 28

Caley Marts sold 133 cattle comprising of 68 bullocks, heifers and young bulls and 65 OTM cattle.

Prime bullocks averaged 239p per kg at 630kg; prime heifers averaged 227p per kg at 590kg.

Prime heifers sold to 260p pkg for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn purchased by G Kirk, Butchers, Denny and to £1813 for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodl­ees, Canonbie purchased by HA Black and Sons, Butchers, Stirling.

Prime bullocks sold to 248p pkg twice for Limousins from M Orr, Penston, Macmerry and W Dandie and Sons both purchased by T Johnston, Butchers, Falkirk and to £1587 for a Limousin from W Dandie purchased by T Johnston.

Bulls (under 30 months) sold to 222p pkg for a Limousin from J Burnett and Sons, Upper Spittalton, Blairdrumm­ond and to £1505 for the same animal.

Other peading prices: Heifers per kg - 260p and 258p Learielaw, 252p Nethermyre­s and Brockwoodl­ees, 250p Knockhouse and Brockwoodl­ees. Bullocks per kg - 248p Penston and Learielaw, 242p Nethermyre­s. Bulls (16-30 months) per kg - 208p Inshanks (Stranraer), 202p Inshanks (Stranraer), 188p and 185p Mid Muntloch.

Heifers per head - £1813 and £1693 Brockwoodl­ees, £1570 and £1563 Knockhouse, £1560 Brockwoodl­ees, £1514 Penston. Bullocks per head - £1587 and £1560 Learielaw, £1539 Nethermyre­s, £1527 Penston, £1481 Moorfield. Bulls (16-30 month) per head - £1505 Upper Spittalton, £1424 Inshanks, £1240 and £1235 Inshanks.

Also forward were 65 OTM cattle. OTMs averaged 144p pkg selling to 200p pkg for a Continenta­l from WJF Ramsay, Mid Muntloch, Drummore, Stranraer and to £1490 for the same animal. Dairy cows averaged 119p pkg selling to 128p pkg from B Lawson and Sons, North Cassingray, Largoward and to £1030 from GW Paterson, Barbeth, Cumbernaul­d.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1

Caley Marts sold 895 store hoggets and feeding ewes at the fortnightl­y sale.

A good show of hoggets forward for numbers met a similar trade to the last sale with the overall average for 895 hoggets sold levelling out at £80.06.

Top price of the day went to W and E Cook, Balcachie for a pen of Texel hoggets at £108.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 2

Caley Marts sold 1691 prime hoggs, ewes and tups at their weekly sale. With a smaller show of 951 prime hoggs they levelled out at 267p per kg with an SQQ of 270p for 743 hoggs. The overall average per head was a whopping £113.50!

Topping the sale per head at £143 for a pen of Texels from WM Bell, Craigend, Perth and to 325p again for a pen of Texels again from Craigend.

Other leading prices: 32.1-39kg: (198 hoggs, average 260p) - Texel 295p, £112 Craigend. Beltex 271p, £103 Meikle Seggie. Cheviot 265p, £100 Myme. Blackface 250p, £89 Edentaggar­t.

Also forward were 740 cast ewes and rams. A larger, albeit leaner show of ewes was forward on the week. Trade continued at recent rates, however reflected the quality on offer.

Heavy ewes averaged £101.26 selling to £137 for Texels from RM and CM Squair, Lower Killernie, Saline. Export ewes averaged £63.60 selling to £87 for Cheviots from WA MacKinnon, West Dron, Bridge of Earn. Cast rams averaged £94.57 selling to £136 for Texels from D Findlay, Pirnhall, Stirling.
