Cases at sheltered housing complex

A resident of a Killearn sheltered housing complex has died after an outbreak of Covid-19 there.

The Abbeyfield House resident, who died on Monday, was among four residents who had tested positive for the virus.

According to social landlord Abbeyfield’s website, the Beech Drive premises has accommodation for eight residents and is managed by the Abbeyfield Scotland Society.

Abbeyfield Scotland chief executive Karen Barr said in a statement this week: “Following four residents testing positive for Covid-19 at Abbeyfield Killearn, we declared an outbreak to the Care Inspectorate on February 17, 2021. and Stirling Health and Social Care Partnership, are working closely with the local housing staff to provide advice and support.

“To respect and maintain patient confidentiality no further details will be given.”

Abbeyfield Scotland pointed out that all Killearn residents had received their first vaccine dose for Covid-19.

However, the vaccine does not provide instant immunity from the worst effects of Covid-19.

Public health expert Professor Linda Bauld of Edinburgh University has said that protection starts to build up in the body about 10 days after a person has the first jab.

After 21 one days most people will have a “reasonable level of protection” but it could take longer in older people with complex immune systems.

Out thoughts are with their family and loved ones Karen Barr
