-

A man and woman were rushed to hospital following a car crash on the M876, near Airth, this week.

The incident happened eastbound prior to Junction 3 at Bowtrees at around 5.20pm on Wednesday.

A motor left the road and plunged down a steep embankment, coming to rest in some trees.

The incident happened around 300 meters north of the junction and involved a white Vauxhall Corsa.

Emergency services attended the scene and the 52-year-old woman was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries and a 45-year-old man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

It’s understood that the woman, who had been driving the vehicle, suffered a broken spine and the man, a passenger, was left with a head knock.

Police are now looking to piece together the circumstances that lead to the incident.

Inspector Peter Houston, of the Road Policing Unit at Randolphfield, said:“We are appealing to other road users who may have witnessed the crash to get in contact with police.

“One woman has sustained serious injuries as a result of this incident and we are keen to establish the full circumstances.

“I would ask if anyone was driving in the area at the time or has possible dashcam footage that could assist with our investigation that they get in touch with officers.”

Anyone with information can contact police by calling 101 and quoting the incident number 2340 of February 24.
