Caley Marts sold 137 cattle comprising of 64 bullocks, heifers and young bulls and 73 OTM cattle.

Prime bullocks averaged 233p per kg for an average of 632kg; prime heifers averaged 238p per kg with an average of 595kg.

Prime heifers sold to 262p pkg for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn purchased by G Kirk and Sons, Butchers, Denny and to £1665 for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodl­ess, Canobie purchased by HA Black and Sons, Butchers, Stirling.

Prime bullocks sold to 250p pkg on two occasions from A Pettigrew, Faskine, Airdrie and DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuth­ill, Muthill purchased by R Brown, Butchers, Stenhousem­uir and T Burns, Butchers, Bo’ness and to £1612 for a Limousin from M Orr and Son, Penston, Macmerry purchased by T Johnston, Butchers, Falkirk.

Bulls (over 16 months) sold to 200p pkg for a Beef Shorthorn from J Wood, Brewsterwe­lls, St Andrews and to £1646 for a Limousin from R Graham and Son, Airthrey Kerse, Stirling.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22

Caley Marts had forward 338 store cattle at their fortnightl­y sale.

Bullocks averaged 238p pkg selling to 286p pkg for a pen of Charolais from Gilmour Farms, New Peninver, Campbeltow­n and to £1310 for a pen of Simmentals from M and J Lamont, Shutterfla­t, Beith.

Heifers averaged 228p pkg selling to 268p pkg for a pen of Limousins from J Smith, Acres, Strathaven and to £1170 for a Limousin from H Aird, Harelaw, Crook of Devon.

Black and Whites sold to 173p pkg from GW Paterson, Barbeth, Cumbernaul­d and to £840 from the same home. Bulls sold to 301p kg for Herefords from S and E Parker, Balgown, Kirkcolm.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23

Caley Marts had forward 1312 prime hoggs, ewes and tups at their weekly prime stock sale.

A mixed show of hoggets were forward for quality, well fleshed hoggets were in good demand. Leaner types proved harder to sell than on previous weeks.

The overall average for the hoggs was 262p per kg with an SQQ of 267p. Top price per head went to David and William Moir of Moir Livestock, Home Farm, Cairness at £152 for a pen of Texels. Pence per kilo was topped at 332p for a pen of Beltexs from Scott Lambie, Braco Castle, Braco.

Also forward were 647 cast ewes and rams. A mixed show for quality met an increased trade on the week to an increased ringside of buyers - 54 per cent of the sale was made up of hill and horned ewes.

Heavy ewes averaged £106.19 selling to £155 for Texel ewes from Tom Mitchell, East Gormyre, Torpichen. Export ewes averaged £66.09 selling to £91 for Cheviots from AD Miller, Bridgehous­e, Westfield. Cast rams averaged £91 selling to £157 for Texels from D Nicol, Auchtenny, Forgandenn­y.
