Greens reselect Ruskell as regional list candidate for May Holyrood election

-

The Green candidate on the Mid Scotland and Fife regional list in May’s Holyrood election will again be Mark Ruskell.

Mr Ruskell, who lives in Deanston, was reselected through a ballot of party members in the region.

He has been a Green MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife since 2016.

Mr Ruskell was first elected to the Scottish Parliament in the 2003, but was not re-elected in the poll of 2007.

In 2012 he became Green councillor for the Dunblane and Bridge of Allan ward.

He said this week:“I’m delighted to have been selected by Scottish Green Party members to top our list in Mid Scotland and Fife once again.

“Over the last five years the Scottish Green MSPs have delivered more than any other party in opposition at Holyrood, including an extra £10.9m for Stirling Council which saved cuts to the Smith Museum and the Big Noise project.

“I helped deliver the ban on fracking, strengthened climate change laws and won protection for our marine environment at Holyrood, while continuing to challenge the Scottish Government to protect Park of Keir and other local spaces. In the last year I’ve served on the Covid Committee and have successfully pushed the government to open new test centres and extend support for those self-isolating.

“The next parliamentary session is going to be crucial in building back better from the pandemic in a way that creates a fairer, greener society.

“The Scottish Greens have a plan to invest in a green recovery, creating new jobs in industries which tackle the climate and nature emergencies.

“The need to help young people access job opportunities and education is critical and is why I pushed for and won the commitment for free bus travel for under nineteen-year-olds. I look forward to making sure the Scottish Parliament delivers for people across the Stirling area in the next session.”
