Eyesore ‘for sale’ signage

-

Estate agent signage is an eyesore says a Stirling woman hoping to see it banned from the area.

Faye McPherson is hoping to launch a campaign to have the for sale/sold boards erased from residential areas.

And she says her own home in Grampian Road looks as if it is permanently for sale because of signs sprouting up nearby.

“These advertising boards are unsightly and mar our city streets,” said Faye.“I have nothing against anyone if they wish to display one in their own property, but some estate agents think they can put them up at the end of any road.

“I live in the first house in my road and it constantly looks like my home is for sale.

“If I put a board up advertising a business the council would be on me immediately to remove it.

“These signs are ugly, unsightly and remain up long after the homes are sold as an advertising ploy.

“I have just sold a flat without any sign up at all as I find them a blot on our residential areas.”

Online property trade magazine estateagenttoday.co.uk, acknowledges that signs can be seen as an annoyance and attract complaints, as well as the potential to being seen as“antiquated”in an increasingly digital world.

However, the pros for estate agents include attracting attention and word of mouth, and helping to avoid the danger that the home for sale is forgotten about, even with a significant online presence.

They add:“By having a For Sale sign, you also increase the likelihood of attracting opportunist buyers – those who see the sign, out the blue, and suddenly have their interest piqued.

“By not having a For Sale sign, you could be missing an open goal when it comes to attracting as many would-be buyers as possible. Yes, many will turn first to the internet, but people do still like the comfort of more traditional marketing methods. They know where they stand.

“On a more practical level a For Sale sign makes your property stand out instantly when would-be buyers come to view it. With first impressions so important, you want your buyers to know which one is your home straight away.”
