Driest and wettest weeks back to back

-

The first week in March was our driest week in Stirling for nine months which has now been followed last week with our wettest week in Stirling formore than a year, writes Observer weather editor Scott Mclean.

Not since February 2020 have we recorded a higher weekly total of rainfall than the three inches that fell last week. The middle part of the week was the wettest with the weekend being mostly dry.

It was breezy on most days with a maximum wind speed of 37mph and the unsettled conditions meant the temperature remained above freezing all week reaching 10.9 Centigrade.

The lowest temperature was 1.1 Centigrade on Sunday, March 7.

The maximum daily rainfall was 28.45mm on Tuesday, March 9, for a weekly total of 75.69mm.

After last week’s wet weather the swing returns back to drier and settled conditions this week but with that comes the risk of colder temperatures. A few brief light showers are possible midweek but overall the rest of the week including the weekend will be mostly dry with sunny intervals as high pressure dominates. Daytime highs will be around 6 to 12 Centigrade with overnight lows dropping close to freezing and possibly lower. Wind this week will be lighter than last week.

Did You Know : Aided by the clock change on the last Sunday of March, by the end of this month sunset will be more than 90 minutes later than this week with a sunset time approaching 8pm.
