‘Eyesore’ bus shelter is slammed

- ALASTAIR MCNEILL STUART MCFARLANE

Raploch residents this week hit out at the“disgusting” condition of a replacement bus shelter.

The shelter at Easton Court – a stop on the Raploch to St Ninians bus route – was taken away last week and another put in its place.

However, Easton Court couple Charles and Margaret Phillips described the‘new’ bus shelter as“totally inadequate”.

Pensioner Mr Phillips told the Observer:“It looks like it has been lying in a junkyard. It’s in some state. It’s covered in what looks like moss, mould and dirt and is in desperate need of a clean and some paint.

“It’s pretty galling because there was nothing wrong with the shelter which was there before. It was in a far better condition. I don’t know why they felt the need to change it.

“There’s not much shelter or space for standing in the new shelter. It’s more open to the elements than the previous one and there is less space for people to stand.

“I think it’s pretty disgraceful. I don’t think the council would have put this shelter up in Dunblane, Bridge of Allan or Riverside. People there wouldn’t put up with it, so I don’t see why people in Raploch should. It’s an eyesore.”

Mrs Phillips added:“They could at least have cleaned it and given it a lick of paint before putting it up.”

Mr Phillips contacted the Observer yesterday (Tues) with a photo showing council staff scrubbing the shelter that morning at 7am.

A Stirling Council spokesperson said:“The council apologises for the initial presentation of the new bus shelter at Easton Court, and can confirm it has now been cleaned.

“Our standard procedure is to clean shelters after installation to remove any debris that can accumulate while installation is taking place.

“This bus shelter was installed at the end of last week and was scheduled to be cleaned this week.

“The shelter seat will be painted and the panels will be replaced as soon as possible.”
