Stirling season’s Saturday opening

-

The club will host the annual Captain’s v Vice Captain’s match on Saturday, March 27 to begin the 2021 season.

Captain George Clelland will hit the opening tee shot at 8am before partnering President Neil Malcolm against Willie Nicol (vice captain) and Ian Morrison (vice president). A total of 68 pairs of players will complete the teams.

The format is fourball betterball with matches decided by the team finishing the nine holes (1-7,17 and18) most holes up.

If a pairing is three down with two holes to play they must try their best to win the remaining two holes to finish one down whilst their opponents will also try and win the two holes to finish five up. Results should be returned on completion of your game and the team with most holes up will be declared the winners.

Players should familiarise themselves with handicaps, strokes received and tees from match and handicap email sent on Saturday, March 20. Preferred lies also start on Saturday.

Players are reminded, of the conditions on email poster sent also on Saturday, March 20.

Bridge of Allan

The new World Handicap System started last weekend at Bridge of Allan and with the longer course set up the recent out of this world scores seemed to diminish.

In Friday’s Gents Senior Nine Hole Stableford, Steve Ingram got back to winning ways with his fine 21 point score. In second place was Bob Buchanan with 19 points, and third place was taken by Tom Inglis on 18 points.

In Saturday’s McCallum Rosebowl it was good to see a new winner with Jim Gore winning with his fine 38 points score on a countback from Stuart Vannet and Andrew Stuart who were second and third respectively .

Gordon Darlington continues to lead the way in the Senior Gents Order of Merit and Hugh Dent still leads the McCallum Rosebowl Order of Merit with only one round to go.

The new handicap system will take a while to bed in, and will be a bit of a culture change, as players winning may not get their handicaps cut while others may well do”.
