Stirling Albion manager Kevin Rutkiewicz was delighted to see his side emerge from Saturday’s home game against Brechin City with all three points.

Substitute Kieran Moore scored his first goal for the club 20 minutes into the second half to settle a tight contest of few chances as Albion climbed to second place in the League 2 table.

A much-changed Brechin team proved a tougher proposition than the one Stirling swatted aside 5-0 at Glebe Park in November but the result was all important.

Albion were in Scottish Cup action last night (Tuesday) against Raith Rovers at Forthbank, with the winners away to Livingston on Saturday, April 3.

Rutkiewicz said: “Brechin made it very difficult for us. We weren’t at our best but Brechin were in our faces and disrupting what we wanted to do. I don’t think they got into too many goalscoring positions but I’m sure they will cause other teams problems if they continue to play like that.

“We played really well in a bounce game against Falkirk on Tuesday and had such a good training session on Thursday and it all fell a bit flat but it’s three points and another clean sheet. We go second in the table and now look forward to two very tough games against Raith and Elgin.

“Paul McLean had to go off because he twisted his knee so we will need to see how he is and Cammy Thomson and Dylan Bikey picked up niggles against Falkirk. We are hoping they are back in the short term but with the schedule we have even two weeks out is a lot of football.

“David Wilson was outstanding when he came on and dictated the direction of play, particularly in the second half, so I’m delighted for him. David had a tough time through injury and would have missed a lot of games had it not been for the Covid lockdown so it’s a bit of a blessing for him.”

Moore scored the winner just six minutes after replacing Scott Roberts and Rutkiewicz was pleased to see the former Queen’s Park winger get off the mark.

He said: “We just felt we needed to make a change and the one real bit of quality we showed, we got a goal from it. Andy Ryan has lasered a great cross-field pass and Kieran has shown great desire to get there and then it’s a controlled finish from him.”

Brechin player/manager Michael Paton said: “The new players have gelled quickly and you could see that on the pitch. There were a lot of positives but one wee lapse in concentration cost us. It was a great team performance and we just need to take that into the next game.”
