SWANSWATER

The week started cool and breezy with some sunny spells but by the end of the week there were strong winds and some very heavy showers. Unfortunately, the rain led to some slightly coloured water at the weekend, but this should clear quickly.Water temperature remains around 7oC.

The most productive area this week was the Dam although the Channel in front of the Island was also a bit of a hot spot. In general, the fish were around three to four feet down although they went a bit deeper on Sunday.

The small ponds, especially the Meadow Pond, provided some great sport in more sheltered conditions, on the days when the winds made things more difficult on the big pond.

A variety of lures and nymphs were catching on the fly ponds with Damsel, Diawl Bach, Dancer, Ally McCoist, and Buzzer being the most popular patterns. On the bait pond spinners, worms, maggots and power bait were all catching.

Amongst the best bags landed on the fly were: Willie Smillie 6lb 8oz Blue; Lewis Sharp, on his first-time fly-fishing, two for 7lb 8oz including 5lb 8oz Rainbow, plus five c/r; Tam Baillie five for 12lb; James Elliott for 11lb 8oz including a Brown; Stuart Nicholson three for 12lb 4oz including a Gold.

Now that the clocks have changed the fishery is open every day from 8am to 7pm except for Thursday when it close s at 2.30pm. Please continued to observe all Government guidelines with regard to the current Covid situation, including travel restrictions, social distancing and hand hygiene.

LAKE OF MENTEITH

The weather has not really encouraged too many potential customers and staff continue to outnumber the customers most days.

Despite losses and having an extremely quiet Kirk and School Day last autumn due to travel restrictions, the board has kept up the donations to the kirk and school (£1200) as they are so important to the community. Thanks also to the anglers who donated.

Scottish Club Championship: Entries are still being taken. There are still plenty of spaces in Group Two (June 26, July 3, 10, 17 and 24. There are too many teams wanting a heat in Group One and unfortunately some will have to be moved to Group Two to balance the heats up a bit.
