Lots of fun with Chinese club activities

-

Stirling Chinese Community Club has been celebrating a successful summer of activities.

For six weeks over the school holidays, the society organised sports and educational events for youngsters in Stirling and surrounding areas.

The events were open to all children, with teachers and coaches from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds.

The children benefitted from written and spoken Mandarin, art classes, as well as enjoying coaching sessions in badminton, cricket and tennis, with some children joining local clubs.

The activities took place at Menstrie Dumyat

Centre and St Ninians Old Parish Church Hall.

Volunteer Adam Thomson said: “As a way of giving back to the community, we took the children out and about in the St Ninians area to pick up litter. Everyone got involved and hopefully we have made our local space a more pleasant environment for everyone.

“It was great to get back to near normality, exercising mind and body. Everyone appreciated the need to limit numbers and adhere to social distancing/mask wearing, and this did not dampen the enthusiasm of all involved. We are optimistic that this will be the first of many such programmes in the years ahead.”

Chairperson Rita Yuan Gao added: “A massive thank you to Stirling Council for providing funding to enable these community initiatives.

“We would like to thank all the volunteers who made this possible and Badminton Scotland for providing insurance for the sports activities. We hope to continue to provide opportunities for young children as we move out of the pandemic.”
