Tributes to ‘one in a million’ Steven, 19

- CHRIS MARZELLA

Tributes have been paid to a popular teen who died from cancer earlier this month.

Steven Alexander Robertson - described as “big-hearted and funny” lost his battle with the disease at the age of just 19.

The former Wallace High pupil had been undergoing chemotherapy to tackle stage 2 Hodgkin lymphoma and doctors had been left pleased with his progress. However, towards the end of the treatment he became unwell and passed away on Monday, September 13, due to organ failure.

Now, his best friend has launched a fundraiser to give the much-loved teen a fitting send-off.

Callum Taylor launched the online Go Fund Me page with an initial target of £5000.

By Tuesday of this week, the sum raised was more than £5,600.

Callum told the Observer: “Steven was diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkin lymphoma, which is a type of blood cancer, and was undergoing chemotherapy at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert.

“Doctors were pleased with Steven’s progress and had very high hopes for him to be all clear at the end of his chemotherapy.

“However, his organs began to shut down and his heart failed with just four weeks left of chemotherapy at just 19-yearsold.”

On the fundraising page, Callum said: “We are fundraising to raise money towards his funeral to take the burden off the family at such difficult times.”

One contributor to the fundraiser posted: “I used to work with Steven. He was a comedic boy who always had a cheeky smile, quick wit, and always had the last word!

“You’ll be missed by everyone. Taken far too soon.”

Friends have paid tribute to Steven online.

One described him as “a character and a half, you were one of the most nicest, down-to-earth,funniest and the biggest hearted guys I’ve ever met”. Adding: “You were one in a million and a true diamond to have had the pleasure of knowing.”
