Stirling County’s season was ended by the weather on Saturday when overnight rain saw thie final Western Union Premier Division match at Greenock cancelled.

It meant Stirling ended in a respectable fifth place with seven wins and six defeats which was a fine effort considering there were a number of occasions througout the season that the team was well short of full strength.

In the final league statistics, three players were in the top 10 in runs scored with South African student Brandon McMullen’s total of 767 runs seeing him in second place behind Mo Awais (Uddingston) who scored 778. Skipper Matthew Tweedie was fifth on 424 and Harry Booker eighth on 394.

The final Monthly Medal of the season was held last weekend and it was great to see the summer conditions continuing and resulting in good entries for all competitions. Winner of Division 1 on Saturday with a fantastic net 63 was Scott Mackenzie with Jamie Drummond second and Stuart McLachlan third, both players returning net 65s.

In Division 2, Roberto Zanelli got back in the winner’s circle with his net 64, just pipping Ian Stewart who was a shot further back with his net 65. Andrew Walker took third place honours with a net 68.

Scott Mackenzie was also confirmed as the winner of this year’s Richardson Quaich for returning the best three gross scores in Monthly Medals during 2021 and Sandy Robertson was confirmed as the winner of the Pullar Cup for returning the best three net scores in Monthly Medals during 2021.

In Friday’s Senior Gents Nine Hole Stableford it was good to see a new winner with David McCulloch just beating Keith Pyper on a countback, both players scoring 21 points. Hugh Dent was third with 20 points.
