It’s‘hair we go’after £80k salon revamp

-

It’s been a rocky year for hairdressers across Stirling as they work to get back on firm footing after the disruption of the pandemic.

But for one salon and beauty parlour based in the city’s Port Street, it’s been an especially difficult challenge after forking out almost £80,000 for a revamp at the time when money has proved tightest across the sector.

The Observer reported earlier this year about the challenges faced by the owner of Room23, Emma Goggins, as a shock announcement date for re-opening the sector left her scrambling to complete the overhaul works as other salons welcomed back their customers.

The drama wasn’t to stop there, with issues around contractors and the hiring of new hairdressers forcing Emma to pull in the help of family and friends to get things finished off in May.

And now she hoped being invited to take part in a showcase event - run by global haircare brand Schwartzkopf alongside 50 hairdressers in the UK will be the boost to help complete the return.

Emma said:“In terms of the business, we’re hoping that things can grow from here but we’re still getting over a really hard period - we budgeted for between £50,000 and £60,000 for all the work but it ended up being £70,000 to £80,000 all in.

“It would have broken me without the support of my partner and my parents but we’re recovering from it now, although it’s like going back to square one and we’re still catching up now because we started four weeks after most of the other hairdressers.”

The Schwartzkopf‘Big Hair Do’event takes place tonight and allows for salons like Emma’s to open their doors and welcome potential new clients, as well as thanking those who have helped them through the pandemic with freebies and voucher offers.
