Thornhill homes getOK

-

Plans to build three new homes in Thornhill have been conditionally approved by Stirling Council planners.

Martyn Steedman wants to develop land between Thornhill Primary School and 19 Low Town.

Two representations were made by members of the public citing concerns over the scale and design of the buildings, layout and insufficient parking provision.

However, the planners said the houses “would not appear visually dominant or dwarf existing housing” and that the council’s roads officer had advised that the off-road parking met the authority’s standards.

In their decision, the planners said: “The application site comprises of buildings which are soon to be redundant by the farmer. The existing development is considered to degrade the village setting and amenity so the site is considered to a brownfield site, suitable for infill redevelopment.

“The layout shows the proposed houses fronting directly onto the public road at Low Town and set back slightly from the public pavement. The scale of the proposed housing is in keeping with the housing along Low Town

“The proposed dwellings will all take access from the public road known as Low Town, a double-width street with accompanying footways, which is subject to a speed restriction of 30mph, reducing to 20mph at times corresponding to the adjacent primary school’s use. Consideration is given to the volume of additional vehicle trips associated with the proposed three fourbedroom dwellings, a key factor given the proximity to Thornhill Primary School.

“It is not anticipated that the low levels of additional vehicle movements will have an impact on the existing road network, or be to the detriment of road safety.”
