Stirling lottery all for good causes

-

Stirlingshire good causes are being encouraged to sign up to benefit from the Stirling Community Lottery which launched this week.

Stirlingshire Voluntary Enterprise (SVE) launched the new community lottery on September 30 with a virtual celebration attended by over 40 local organisations keen to hear more about the lottery.

Tickets for the Stirling Community Lottery go on sale on November 9 and will cost £1 with 60p going towards Stirling’s good causes.

The draw will take place each Saturday, with the first draw taking place on December 11.

There will be a jackpot of £25,000 for a matching sequence of six numbers. Other prizes on offer include £2,000, £250, £25, or three free tickets.

Good causes across Stirling will be able to set up their own lottery page, receiving 50p in every pound spent by players.

And a further 10p in every pound will go into a central fund for local good causes, administrated by SVE, with the remainder being put towards prizes, operating costs, and VAT.

Registration for good causes is now open at www. stirlingcommunitylottery.scot.

The community lottery website is also where local residents can buy tickets, and support the causes they care most about.

One of the first organisations to sign up was Stirling Community Media.

Bruce Tait, chair of Stirling Community Media, said:“We are delighted to become part of Stirling Community Lottery as we see this as a great way for good causes across Stirling to raise funds and profile.

“After the last couple of years, local communities need a boost, and this will be a great way to let people support and engage with their favourite local charities.

“The funds that Stirling Community Media raise will support our work in giving a voice to local communities and our work training young people in communications.”

On opening the launch event, SVE deputy chief officer Anne Knox said:“This is a very exciting time as the community lottery offers a valuable additional income generation solution to good causes within Stirling, many of whom may have missed out on vital fundraising opportunities over the past 18 months.

“This online platform is free and easy to use to local organisations making sure that they can continue to support citizens and communities across Stirling.”

Lottery management company Gatherwell has been appointed to run the scheme, having already launched similar lotteries elsewhere.

Ben Speare, Gatherwell’s managing director, said:“We are delighted that Gatherwell has been awarded the opportunity to run the new Stirling Community Lottery.

“We’re looking forward to helping support Stirlingshire local causes in partnership with Stirlingshire Voluntary Enterprise.”
