Local historian and author will bring past to life at lecture

Local historian and author Craig Mair will be bringing the past to life at an event later this month.

Craig will present‘The Making of Bridge of Allan: 1800-1900’onWednesda­y, October 27 at Legends Coffee House at the foot of the Wallace Monument. Doors open at 6.30pm for tea and coffee before the lecture begins at 7pm.

The lecture can also be viewed online from 7-8pm.

In 2018 Craig saw one of this most hefty works published.

“Bridge of Allan: a History” was the result of several years work by the historian and featured 330,000 words, 500 pages and 420 images. It could easily be described as the definitive history of Bridge of Allan.

The book was published by the Dr Welsh Trust, Bridge of Allan’s local history organisati­on since 1971 and dedicated to recording, dedicating and publicisin­g the town’s past.

Craig, a Stirling University History graduate and head of Wallace High School’s history department from 1983-2011, is also the author of numerous other books, including“Stirling Royal Infirmary: A History”and several books about the Stirling area.

He was also a founder of the Bridge of Allan Local History Group in 1986, holding the offices of secretary, then chairman, for 19 years. He also took the chair of the Stirling Local History Society.
