WI NEWS

At the recent meeting in the village hall, the audience was treated to a talk and demonstrat­ion by Kirsty Waters, a NHS physiother­apist who uses pilates in her work with all ages, abilities, disabiliti­es, and illness recoveries. This was well received by the ladies who welcomed being able to take part. The “Humorous verse about lockdown” winners were 1 - Jan MacDonald; 2 - Ellen McClymont; 3 - Anne Stewart. Next meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 9.

All welcome to Sunday’s aervice at 11.30am. The revised guidelines mean that up to 80 people can now be accommodat­ed which means there is plenty of room for everyone who wishes to attend and it is no longer necessary to reserve a seat in advance. SENIOR CITIZENS’ ASSOCIATIO­N

Members spent a lovely afternoon in the company of David Sturgeon who played his piano and sang for an hour, playing by ear and without needing words - amazing! He has a wide variety of songs, some to make us laugh and some to make us think but all much enjoyed by those who were there. Next month’s meeting is on Tuesday, November 16 at 2pm in the village hall when Neil and Fiona McMillan will be entertaini­ng members with music and song. All welcome.

DRYMEN AND DISTRICT LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY

The society will meet on Thursday, October 28 in the village hall at 7.45pm, when Murray Cook, Stirling’s community archaeolog­ist, will give an illustrate­d talk on his recent book, ‘Stirling: the anvil of Scottish history’. Copies of the book will be available to purchase. Please use the hand sanitisers on entering the hall, and wear a mask unless you are exempt. You will be asked to sign an attendance sheet with contact details, and to inform the secretary if you or anyone in your household develops symptoms or tests positive for Covid-19 within 10 days of the meeting. Visitors and new members are always welcome. £7 per annum or £2 for attendance at a single meeting.

WI NEWS

Meetings resumed on October 14 and members enjoyed an afternoon in the Winnock Hotel. All had a great time learning how to produce several lovely folded napkins under the instructio­n of Fiona Eadie from Gartocharn. This was followed by tea and coffee and a raffle. It was good to finally get together with each other again and everyone is looking forward to the next meeting on Thursday, November 11 at 2pm again in the Winnock Hotel . There will be a demonstrat­ion of Christmas flowers by Marie Elder.

The Guild meets on Tuesday, October 26 at 1.15pm when probationa­ry minister Ruth Kennedy will tell how, after having a family, she followed her parents into the ministry. The Prayer Group meets as usual on Wednesday from 10-11am.

THORNHILL NORRIESTON CHURCH

Sunday worship will be led by the minister, the Rev Ellen Larson Davidson, and will start at the usual time of 10am. The service on Zoom for Norrieston and Kippen congregati­ons will come from the same service. As Ellen’s technical skills increase, last Sunday members at home were briefly able to see the congregati­on in the church and those there were able to wave back in response. It all helps us to feel the closeness of one worshiping community. Those attending the church in person have to stick to the now familiar rules of hand sanitising, social distancing, mask wearing and contact tracing. The contents of the service is available from the minister on email and the dedicated phone line will be updated on 01786 858122. Additional names for the rota for the routine cleaning of the church would be greatly appreciate­d. Last Sunday at Harvest Thanksgivi­ng there was a generous contributi­on of foodstuffs to be distribute­d later to Start Up Stirling. As winter approaches there is a long list of urgent necessitie­s and monetary donations can always be made, details on line. Contributi­ons to the Blythswood Shoebox Appeal should be brought to the church on Sunday, October 31, or left with Margaret McNicol during the following week, in time for distributi­on for Christmas. Bible Study on the Book of Job will continue on Wednesday, October 27 at 10am. The Life Builder Study Guide on the Book of Job by Paul Stevens (£5) is useful, but not essential, and is available on line or contact Ellen.

GUILD

Members met last week for the first time for a while in the Lion and Unicorn and enjoyed a good social afternoon. They plan to meet again in the same place on Wednesday, November 3 at 2pm and would be pleased to welcome others whether on a regular or occasional basis.
