Doune overcame the challenge of old rivals Sandys to move into thje next round of the East of Scotland Cup with an outstanding team display on Saturday.

They opened the scoring in 14 minutes when Niall McClure won possession and released David Gillespie.

Gillespie curled an inviting ball into the space between the keeper and the six-yard box where Alan Inglis pressurised the defence to reach the ball ahead of the keeper and turned the ball home from close-range.

Two minutes later, Lukasz Duszynski’s stabbed shot beat the keeper, but slipped inches wide of the right hand post.

The hunt for goal continued and Doune should have extended their lead on 20 minutes when Callum Smith saw his close-range shot come back off the keeper’s legs.

But after 30 minutes, Doune deservedly extended their lead with a great goal.

Duszynski and David Innes weaved their way down the left flank and played the ball inside to McClure who shrugged off a defender, drew the keeper and calmly slotted the ball home from 16 yards.

Despite dominating the remainder of the half, Doune were unable to add to their tally.

Sandys were awarded a penalty on 53 minutes but Kidd sent the ball wide of the diving Callum Davison and also wide of the right hand post.

The miss haunted them and Doune sealed victory on 78 minutes with a clinical finish from Christopher Macdonald. Inglis cushioned a perfect pass into his path and without breaking stride, he stroked the ball wide of the keeper and into the far corner of the net.

Doune controlled the closing stages, confident their three-goal cushion would see them progress. Sandys did force one late effort, but their attack came to nothing.
