Post-war, a desire to return his native land was forbidden by the Communist government. He was a talented and prolific composer all his life. Included in the programme were a movement from Symphony No. 1, a piano piece called “Merry Christmas 1941” and an excerpt from Martinu’s opera named “The Greek Passion.” Members appreciated the lucid talk nd choice of music which Peter provided.
CARSE OF STIRLING ROTARY CLUB
Last week saw the club gather at the Golden Lion Hotel for a business meeting where everyone gets together to socialise, enjoy a meal and discuss the business of the club. Treasurer James Muirhead, ported that payment of the club’s 202021 donations had been completed. He confirmed that a total of £4510 had been distributed amongst worthy causes. These were the Ambulance Staff Charity, Castleview School, Food Train Stirling, Global Sight Solutions, Home-Start Stirling, Ladies of the Rock, MacMillan Cancer Support, PLUS (Forth Valley) Ltd, Rotary Foundation (End Polio Now), Rotary KidsOut UK, Start-Up Stirling, Stirling County Rugby Club, Stirling Street Pastors, Strathcarron Hospice and Town Break Stirling. James added that, thanks to the public’s generous support of the Santa’s Sleigh collections and donations from local organisations, the club still has a financial reserve for the 2022 KidsOut Day at Stirling County Rugby Club and the Kids Primary School Quiz. This reserve will prove invaluable in the case of Santa being either snow-bound or in self-isolation for this year’s ‘Sleigh Season’. Anyone who would like more information on becoming a Rotarian can either pay a visit to the Golden Lion Hotel on a Wednesday from 6.30pm or get in touch through social media channels, by searching for ‘@carserotary’.
