Stirling Observer

Weather report

-

It was once again wet and windy in Stirling last week but there was a more wintry feel with snowfall on Thursday, when around 4cm of snow fell in the city area, our most snowfall since early February 2021, writes Observer weather columnist Scott McLean.

Thankfully the snow was short lived and the week ended on a brighter note when there was much needed sunshine at the weekend when the temperature climbed into double figures.

Temperatures peaked at 10 Ce on February 21, with a low of 0.2 C in February 24.

Daily rainfall topped 32.26mm on February 20, for a weekly total of 84.84mm.

Wind speeds reached 43mph on February 22.

In the coming days, we can expect a few dry days but also more wet weather will still feature in the forecast. Wednesday should stay mostly dry with some sunny intervals developing but by Thursday wet weather will move into the area bringing another spell of rain that looks like affecting most of Thursday and into the early part of Friday.

A dry end to the week is expected and the start of the weekend although rain may again feature on Sunday.

Most of the wet weather will fall as rain but some of it could turn wintry at times. Some overnight temperatures could drop just below freezing later in the week with daytime temperatures reaching 7-9 C. Breezy at times but the wind in general will be much calmer than previous weeks.

Did you know – Last Saturday was the first dry day in February after 25 consecutive days of precipitation recorded since the last previous dry day on January 31. The 25 consecutive wet days in February is the longest ever spell of wet weather in the month since our records began in 2009 and just four days short of the all time record of 29 consecutive wet days between December 2013 and January 2014.
