Handy Andy in huge win
Forth Valley Orienteers dominated proceedings at the Scottish Orienteering League races at Coille Nanthais, Argyllshire, topping seven of the 11 courses on the day.
James Hammond and Will Hensman had an epic battle on the Brown course, which saw the race lead change hands seven times between the pair.
Will looked to have secured the points, as he led by four seconds coming into the finish, only for James to get up with the second quickest split on the leg to take the win by a paltry two seconds (60.54).
Andy Llewellyn had a massive 38 minute victory margin on the Black course, coming back in 78.03.
There were also wins for Jason Inman on Short Brown (59.31) and Sam Hunt on Blue (51.08), while Janine Inman was second on Short Blue (48.08) as the leading lady on the course. Fraser Purves was third in the M50 race (76.52) and Paul Hammond was second in M45 in 86.05.
On the junior courses, which were run at the neighbouring Fearnoch Woods, there were a trio of wins for Eilidh Connor on Orange (14.10), Hannah Inman on Yellow (11.51) and Esme Finch on White (9.48). Scarlett Kelly (32.20) and Rebecca Hammond were second and third in the U14 girls race.
The results keep FVO second in the Scottish Inter-Club Championship behind ESOC who have competed in one extra round. The Junior Championship is led by FVO, who extended their lead over MAROC to nearly 10,000 points
Many of the top athletes were missing from the Coille Nathais race, as they travelled to Yorkshire to compete in the British University Championships and there was more local success.
Grace Molloy won the women’s championship in 56.27 ahead of GB team-mate Fiona Bunn while Peter Molloy was second in the men’s championship (70.25).
Peter then made it a double silver for the weekend, as he brought his Cambridge team home first on the opening leg of the relay and although Edinburgh University came through into top spot, Cambridge hung on to the silver medal.
