ABERFOYLE WALK IN THE PARK

The Guild is hosting an open meeting for members and non members on Wednesday, March 23 at 2pm in the Forth Inn. The entertainm­ent is Mondaylele­s Ukulele Group. It would be helpful if nonmembers wishing to come contacted Isabel (01877 382667) or Janette (01877 382250) prior to the meeting for catering and seating arrangemen­ts in line with Covid-19 recommenda­tions.

LENTEN WALKS

Those wishing to join the third Lenten Walk are invited to meet at the Braeval car park at 10am tomorrow (Saturday) and, on this occasion, are encouraged to bring their own refreshmen­ts to have in fellowship following the completion of the walk.

This Sunday at 11.15am the service will be taken by Rev Ken Russell. Tea/ coffee will be served after the service. On Friday, March 25, Buchlyvie Blether, soup and other nibbles, will be held in the Session Room from 12.30pm. All welcome. Applicable Covid guidance will be required to be followed at all meetings.

WI NEWS

The members had a fun evening last Tuesday when there was a visit from the Clackulele Ukulele Band. Following a singalong session to well-known tunes, everyone learned the basics of how to hold and strum a ukulele. The challenge was to perform a short song with at least two chords after only half an hour’s tuition. The competitio­n winners of “A home made percussion instrument “were: 1 Margaret Bennie; 2 equal Lynsey Thomson and Margaret Sparkes; 3 Sheena McLean. The next meeting will take place on April 12.

CALLANDER CALLANDER KIRK

Worship every Sunday at 11.15am led by Rev Jeff McCormick. Everyone is welcome to join (subject to Covid restrictio­ns). On Sunday there will be a Service at 11.15am and Trossachs Church at 3pm. DRYMEN LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY

The next meeting of Drymen & District Local History Society will take place on Thursday, March 24 at 7.45pm in the village hall. Carol Primrose will give an illustrate­d talk on coal mining in Scotland and the Cadder pit disaster of 1913. Coal mining was a dirty and dangerous job with always the danger of roof falls, gas and flooding. Cadder 15 mine at Bishopbrig­gs suffered a disaster in 1913, when 22 men were killed. New memorials to the victims were erected on the centenary of the disaster. Visitors welcome, £2 entrance fee,

WI NEWS

On Thursday, March 10, members and guests enjoyed an interestin­g talk from a representa­tive from the Mercy Ships organisati­on. He had been a volunteer in the past and was still heavily involved in the work undertaken by the volunteers both on board the ships and at the clinics in the countries in Africa where they go. It was interestin­g to hear how profession­al health care staff and other profession­s give up their time to help change the lives of many people in Africa by performing surgery etc which here in the UK are routine procedures. The sum of £150 was raised from donations given by those present and from the proceeds of the raffle and this was donated to Mercy Ships. The next meeting will be on Thursday, April 14 at 2pm in the Winnock Hotel.

DRYMEN AND DISTRICT SENIOR CITIZENS’ ASSOCIATIO­N

Secretary Linda More welcomed a good turnout of members to the meeting on Tuesday and introduced Ruth Glasgow from the G63 Hub who gave an interestin­g and thought provoking talk on the work they do, including the community gardens in Drymen and Killearn, and their endeavours to promote a sustainabl­e community which takes care of the people within it as well as the planet. Ruth’s talk was stimulatin­g and enjoyed by all, prompting an interestin­g discussion on the challenges ahead. Treasurer Sheena McAllister gave the vote of thanks and the meeting concluded with the usual cuppa and raffle. The April meeting is on Tuesday, April 19 at 2pm and will be the AGM and musical entertainm­ent.

GARTMORE CHURCH

Tomorrow (Saturday) the Lenten Walk will be from Braeval Car Park at 10am. All welcome. Service on Sunday at 10am with Rev Scott Brown CBE BD. SPRING CONCERT

Strathendr­ick Singers will be performing a special Spring Concert, featuring music from the Scandinian­vian and Baltic region, on Sunday, March 20 in Killearn Kirk at 7pm. Tickets £12 adults, £3 children, £25 family ticket. Given the repertoire chosen, and links that the choir has with the region, the choir has decided to dedicate the concert to the people of Ukraine and will donate a percentage of proceeds from ticket sales to a Ukrainian Relief Fund. KIPPEN CHURCH

It is planned that Rev Ellen Larson Davidson will lead the service in Kippen Church this Sunday at 11.15am. Please take a lateral flow test before attending church. It will be necessary to wear a mask during the service, to use hand sanitiser on entry and exit and to leave contact details. Updates of interest can always be found on Facebook ‘Kippen and Norrieston Parish Churches of Scotland.’ Access also via Google. In accordance with Church of Scotland advice, in the meantime the church will be closed and alarmed every day, including weekends.

A Lenten study using ‘Not A Tame Lion’ by Hilary Brand, looking at the writings of CS Lewis and movies based on his books and life, will be held on Wednesday mornings at 10am. LENTEN WALKS

The third of the Lenten Walks organised by Port of Menteith Parish Church will begin from the Braeval Forest Car Park (along from Aberfoyle Golf Course) at 10am tomorrow (Saturday). Please bring your own picnic to enjoy at the end of the walk. The walk on March 26 will leave from Kippen Church.
