Second half goals earn Castle points
Comfortable win for league leaders Doune
DOUNE CASTLE .................................. 4 FINNART ............................................... 0
An early David Innes goal set Caledonian League leaders Division One Doune on the road to a convincing win but it was the second half before they finally asserted their authority over Finnart.
The home side went ahead in only three minutes with a well-worked goal.
With a packed area waiting for him to send a corner towards goal,
Christopher Macdonald played the ball to the edge of the penalty box where Innes timed his run to perfection to meet the ball first-time and drill an unstoppable, shot low into the corner of the net.
The soft conditions were challenging and seriously affected the fluency of the game. Just before the interval, Robbie Hurst fired over as the Castle maintained their 1-0 lead at the break.
Alan Inglis made it 2-0 after 53 minutes. Doune were awarded a direct free kick some 22 yards out in a central position. Inglis anticipated the jump of the wall and rifled his low strike under the leaping defenders and into the corner of the net.
They scored a third in 62 minutes. Macdonald sent Hurst clear and he flighted the ball over the keeper and defenders to the waiting Graham McClymont who nodded the ball home from two yards.
Finnart’s resistance waned and the Castle dictated the remainder of the game. They won a series of corners and came close on several occasions.
David Gillespie and Inglis both struck the crossbar before they completed the scoring with a fine goal after 83 minutes. Ross Macfarlane guided a fine pass through to Gillespie to give him a clear run on goal and he hammered the ball home with an angled drive from 14 yards for 4-0.
