Go-ahead for Raploch nursery

-

A children’s nursery looks set to be built near Raploch.

Stirling Council planners have conditionally approved an application by Little Stars Properties Ltd- to develop land 175 metres north west of The Highland Gate on Drip Road at Kildean.

The approval is subject to a Section 75 legal agreement.

Little Stars said they wanted to move to the new nursery from their current leased premises on the Prudential site at Craigforth House.

The new nursery will be a single storey, detached building, capable of accommodating 94 children.

The proposal also includes car parking provision, covered stores for prams and bikes and a refuse storage area. The site is to be fenced by a 1.8 high mesh fence and shrub planting in the areas around the car parking (on the west of the site).

In their decision, council planners said:“The site is an area of undeveloped land within a larger regeneration site. The site is open and level with little meaningful planting.

“The nursery would be an acceptable use in this location since it would provide a facility to complement and enhance the business park. This use is relocating from its current site within the Prudential complex nearby. There is therefore the added benefit that current users will not be disadvantaged, in terms of distance travelled, to use the proposed facility.

“The site is served via an existing footway provision, which will be extended into the site. A number of onward routes are provided for pedestrians to Stirling and the nearby facilities within the Raploch, including public transport connections. A condition has been included within the recommendation requiring the submission of a Travel Plan to monitor and evaluate sustainable travel.

A total of 21 parking spaces will be provided - two more than required for the expected staffing numbers - with one drop-off space and one additional accessible space provided in addition to staff parking. Fourteen cycle parking spaces are also being provided.

A condition has also been included requiring the provision of an electric vehicle charging facilities.
