Smashing job as Andy Lego mosaic gets pride of place

-

A Lego mosaic of Sir Andy Murray has been mounted on a wall at the Dunblane Centre.

The two-time Wimbledon champ is already in with the bricks at the centre, which over the years has mounted many a celebration and screening of his matches.

But the Lego creation, originally made almost a decade ago, has now found a prominent place on the premises.

Volunteers Sandy and Alex Robb had to use scaffolding to secure the artwork on the wall of the centre’s games hall.

The centre team called the pair “amazing”on their social media, adding: “We have found the perfect spot for Andy Murray, who is now watching us in all corners of the Dunblane Centre.

“That was some job, but definitely worth the effort. Thanks you so much Sandy and Alex - this will not be forgotten.”

The Lego mosaic was originally created in 2014 when more than 500 people turned up at the centre for its first‘unleash the Brick’event as part of the building’s 10th anniversary celebrations.

The mosaic had been the centrepiece of the day.

Comprising of no fewer than 46,720 bricks, it was hand-built by visitors, staff, volunteers and kids young and old – a real community achievement.

Centre manager Iain Donnan said this week:“the new location really works and people seem to be responding positively.

“Sandy and Alex are people from the community who wanted to help out. They care about the centre and want it to do well.

“We had other people interested so it was great to see the community coming together for a good cause.

“The position of where the mosaic is now at allows people to appreciate it more from all angles.”
