Cowie threats man is jailed

- COURT REPORTER

A Cowie man was jailed for four months last week on charges which included threatening behaviour.

Thomas Kitson had breached community payback orders – imposed for the offence as well as stealing from a store in the Thistles centre.

The 33-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to the two charges - causing fear and alarm by shouting, swearing and uttering abusive remarks at his Hilton address on September 2, 2019, and stealing a bottle of aftershave on November 18 that year from Debenhams.

His agent told Stirling Sheriff Court last week that Kitson“had been struggling to cope with difficulties as stressed by the author of the [social work] report.”

But Sheriff Derek Hamilton told Kitson: “You have been on these orders and not been compliant.

“That limits what my options are for you. Time has run out for you.

“However, I think you will require some input from various services. It’s up to you if you are going to cooperate with them.”

Kitson was jailed for two months each on these charges to run consecutively.

Kitson had also appeared on two further complaints on charges of assaulting a man by repeatedly punching him on the head at his Hilton address on January 11, 2020, while on bail on two other matters, and producing cannabis and possessing cannabis at his Hilton home on July 10, 2021.

Sheriff Hamilton told Kitson that the orders on these matters, subject to review, were of“some benefit”and continued them until June 26.

He said:“you haven’t shown me you are in a position [to cooperate].”

However, the custodial sentences imposed on the first two matters, he added, were short and gave Kitson the opportunity to undertake the other orders when he got out of prison.
