Stirling Uni art collection open day
The annual University of Stirling art collection open day will take place this month for the first time in two years.
Each year the collection works around a theme reflecting the research interests of the university. This year it is Health and Wellbeing.
Public engagement officer Emma Mccoombie said:“at the formation of the University of Stirling, the then principal Tom Cottrell was passionate about the campus being a stimulating and creative space, where students would be inspired by art, theatre and the natural environment.
“As such, the university has an impressive collection of contemporary art and the Pathfoot Building functions as a working art gallery.
“For the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic, we are pleased to be reinstating our annual open day – which celebrates the exhibitions by having free tours, workshops and a special performance by the Edinburgh
Quartet, with pieces composed by students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, directly inspired by the exhibitions.
“This will be coupled with poetry performances from our Mlitt Creative Writing students here at Stirling, who have also used the exhibitions as inspiration.”
Tours of the collection will take place throughout the day and there will also be free yoga and weaving classes.
A new exhibition,’the Liminal Zone’, will also be launched which explores the seashore as a metaphor for the interface between teaching and art.
The exhibition will include a range of media including photography, sculpture and writing.
The event on Saturday , May 14 between 10am and 4pm is open to all.
