Challenge match boost for charity

Strathendr­ick Rugby Club’s annual President’s Rugby Day on May 21 will be different to usual end-ofseason matches.

The President’s XV will include a number of well-known ex-rugby internatio­nals including former Scotland and British Lion Gordon Bulloch, exinternat­ionals and Glasgow Warrior players Pat Mcarthur, Colin Gregor, Andy Henderson, Fergus

Thomson, Guy Perrett and Rory Kerr.

And the side will be managed by former Endrick and West of Scotland player Dave Young who is slowly recovering from a brain tumour which was diagnosed after he played in the match three years ago.

During that game, in a period of physical contact he began fitting and he was rushed to hospital where the source of his fitting was identified and diagnosis as a brain tumour. Since then, Dave has been though life changing surgery and has been slowly recovering from this trauma and ongoing treatment.

The event is open to the public and is a fundraiser for the Brain Cancer Charity and so far the organising team has raised £8500 but looking to add to this with an online prize auction and fundraisin­g on the day.

It will include live music, a mini beer festival, inflatable slides, food stalls, ice cream and inflatable jousting from 1pm with kick-offr at 2pm.

Club president Jeremy Pembertonp­iggott said: “We are delighted to have Dave back with us for the day and be managing the magnificen­t President’s team from the side lines.

“We would like to welcome everyone from around the area to come and enjoy this special day and help raise funds for this important cause.

“The young bucks of Endrick will take on a fine group of former rugby internatio­nals that boasts more than 150 Scotland caps and more than 600 Glasgow Warriors appearance­s.”

The day’s preceeding­s start with a club awards presentati­on to mini and midi boys and girls from midday.
