Cathedral’s appeal to aid Ukrainian refugees
Donations of cold weather clothing are being sought
Dunblane Cathedral is part of an effort to support Ukrainian refugees who are currently staying in the community.
The cathedral is working with other congregations in Dunblane, Stirling Council, Forth Valley Welcome and Babes in the Wood.
They are currently appealing for donations of umbrellas, gloves, woolly hats, anoraks/waterproofs, walking boots/trainers and wheeled suitcases as well as craft items, wool, knitting/crochet needles, embroidery kits etc. These can be brought to the Cathedral Halls.
A Cathedral spokesperson said: “Although we are providing a room in which people can come and choose suitable clothes, please do not bring any adult clothes to the halls as we have no storage facilities.
“Clothing is currently being provided by Forth Valley Welcome. Specific items may be requested as required.”
Babes in the Wood is working closely with Forth Valley Welcome to provide clothes and other essentials for children.
The spokesperson added: “Ideally, donations of children’s clothing should be taken directly to Babes in the Wood at Unit 32, Stirling Enterprise Park (next to Lidl in Stirling - 10am-5pm Monday to Friday, 10am-4pm Saturdays.
“Anyone unable to deliver items to Babes in the Wood in Stirling may bring items to the Cathedral Halls, where we have a limited amount of storage space.
“Adult clothing is being provided by Forth Valley Welcome who are looking for men and women’s winter pyjamas, thermal tops and legging and gilets.
If you can donate any of these items please contact Linden on linden@ forthvalleywelcome.org to arrange delivery. To meet needs appropriately, donations of money to support refugees from any nation in our area will also be most helpful. These can be donated online to Forth Valley Welcome at www. forthvalleywelcome.org or brought to the Cathedral services and put in the offering plate, in the available Giftaid envelopes.”
Meanwhile, the Smith Art Gallery and Museum is the venue for an afternoon of Ukrainian handmade arts, crafts and food next month.
Money raised from the event on February 11 from 1-4pm will be sent to the country to help those who are defending Ukraine’s freedom.
There is also a last chance to buy a raffle ticket to win the ‘Unbreakable’ mosaic created by Judyjamjar Mosaics. The tribute to the women of Ukraine measures 74cm by 50cm and the winner will be announced on Friday, January 20. All proceeds go to humanitarian medical aid and raffle tickets are available, price £5, from Made in Stirling, in store or via its website.
