Boost for tree-planting charity
A scheme offering families in Stirling a free tree to mark their babies birth has been given the chance to branch out thanks to a local company.
Vivisol UK has given a major boost to Stirling charity Treelink by doubling its recent 5,000 euro grant on the strength of the early success of the Free Trees for Babies scheme.
The ten thousand euros (£8,600) allows Treelink to continue the scheme into 2024 and beyond.
Vivisol, with offices in Castle Business Park and a depot in Springkerse Industrial Estate, was originally a locally-owned company.
It is now a part of the Sol Group, a multi-million euro business that is still owned by the two families that set it up in Milan over 90 years ago.
Nigel Chesterton from Vivisol said: “The tie up with a charity that is passionate about improving the local Stirling area by increasing tree planting seems an ideal meeting of aims. We hope it will be a longstanding partnership.”
Max Hislop, vice-chair of Treelink Stirling, added:“we were excited to be approached by Vivisol. There are obvious connections between oxygen and trees and the sponsorship is allowing us to establish the new Free Trees for Babies scheme.”
To mark the additional grant, Treelink gave a bird cherry tree to young mother Megan Buchan, who works at Vivisol’s Castle Business Park offices. Megan thanked Treelink, saying:“i love the idea of the tree growing alongside Arthur and can’t wait to watch them both grow.
“I think it’s a brilliant idea for all families to get involved in and it was nice planting our tree together and explaining that this is his tree and how we have to look after it to help it grow.”
To qualify for the scheme, you must live in the Stirling Council area and have room for at least a small tree in your garden.
It is for families who wish to celebrate the birth of a pre-school child or an adoption, or commemorate a lost baby.
