Anti-smoking groups are offered £500 grant

- ALASTAIR MCNEILL

Health charity Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) is offering Stirlingshire and Clackmannanshire community groups a £500 grant.

The money is to cover salary, travel or material costs associated with engaging people in their community about the harms caused by tobacco.

Organisations whose applications are successful are required to sign up to the Charter and pledge three actions that they will take to improve the wellbeing of people they work with by addressing smoking.

Some of the most common pledges include: ·Creating a smoke-free environment ·Equipping young people to make confident and responsible decisions on smoking, health and wellbeing

·Incorporating tobacco education or stop smoking support and resources into programmes and events

·Directing people to their local Quit Your Way service delivered by the NHS.

ASH Scotland chief executive Sheila Duffy said:“we particularly encourage pledges to tackle smoking and applications for a Charter small grant from organisations in areas of multiple deprivation which support people facing the greatest challenges to good health, including those experiencing poverty, mental health problems, homelessness, young carers, or people who are care experienced.”

For details before the Monday February 20 deadline, visit the small grants section on ASH Scotland’s website or email: enquiries@ ashscotland.org.uk

ASH Scotland encourages anyone in Stirlingshire and Clackmannanshire aiming to give up smoking to contact their local stop smoking service, community pharmacy or call Quit Your Way Scotland on 0800 848484 or visit Quit Your Way Scotland.
