Peace breaks out in the Forthbank boardroom
Stirling Albion have hailed a new agreement between the board and supporters’ trust as a “momentous occasion” for the club.
The relationship between the trust – which owns a majority shareholding at the club – and the boardroom at Forthbank was the subject of much agitation early last year with efforts being made to oust former chairman Stuart Brown.
Mr Brown survived that vote, but eventually left the club – along with two other directors – after social media posts in which he made offensive comments about women came to light.
Since then, the behind-thescenes picture at Albion has been calmer and the latest agreement signed last Wednesday aims to formalise the relationship between the supporters’ trust and the club board.
It lays a “governance framework” and set of rules which the club will be run in accordance with the owners, reflective of the fact that the Binos are a fan-owned club.
According to a statement published on the club’s website, the new accord includes clarification on the roles of both boards; the make up of the club board and the democratic process for appointing directors; and reserved matters which need the approval of the club’s majority owners.
The agreement was signed by representatives of both sides in the Forthbank boardroom last week, with hopes it will smooth out the off-the-field arrangements at the club as the club charge for League Two promotion.
Stirling Albion director Alasdair Dunn said: “This agreement has been put together after an extensive analysis of how other fan-owned clubs throughout the UK are governed.
“The result is an agreement which gives the club clarity and stability and provides a platform for a harmonious and constructive working relationship between the club and its owners long into the future.”
Stirling Albion Supporters’ Trust secretary Steve Smith added: “There has been a long period of uncertainty over the direction of the club and this agreement is a positive move to have a transparent and open method which reflects the values and aims of the Supporters’ Trust to have Stirling Albion at the heart of the community.”
Meanwhile, on the pitch, the Binos announced a new face ahead of last night’s trip to Bonnyrigg Rose.
Midfielder Robbie Hamilton, son of former Motherwell and Dunfermline striker Jim, has joined from Hibs after playing a starring role in their development side, including an assist in their recent narrow loss to German giants Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Youth League.
