Find out more about National Park future

Webinar will detail plans on climate change, nature and housing

- KAIYA MARJORIBANKS

People living in the National Park can find out more about plans for the park’s future at a webinar to take place on Monday (June 5).

The webinar is open to everyone with an interest in the National Park – including local communities, residents and businesses – and will allow them to hear about key issues such as climate change, nature and local housing.

It is part of an ongoing consultation about the future of the National Park that will run until July 19.

In April, a new Draft National Park Partnership Plan was published as a conversation starter.

The draft plan sets out proposals for responding to the changes and challenges faced by people and places in the National Park.

These include the impacts of a warmer, wetter climate, public transport provision in the area and how to reverse the decline in nature in the National Park.

Gordon Watson, chief executive of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority, encouraged residents to have a say on the future of the Park, telling how the impact of climate change is being felt locally.

He said: “Changes are underway that are affecting – and will affect – all of us.

“Globally, we are facing a climate emergency and we are losing nature at a scale never experienced before.

“The impacts of these global crises are being felt at a very local level, with more frequent flooding and landslips seriously damaging people’s homes, communities and businesses here in the National Park.

“As we develop plans for responding to these changes, we want to hear from people living and working in the park.

“That can be as little as a single comment about public transport options or more detailed thoughts on how to future-proof communities in the National Park against the impacts of climate change and nature loss.”

The online webinar will take place on Monday, June 5, at 7pm and will last no more than an hour.

It is open to everyone with an interest in the National Park.

Those attending will hear about some of the key issues facing the National Park and will have the opportunity to ask questions.

If you can’t attend the webinar, the consultation is ongoing until July 19 and you can share your views by visiting www. lochlomond-trossachs.org/future
