Community out in force as the sun shines on fun-filled agricultural show

-

The sun was shining for the 2023 Drymen Show at the weekend.

Visitors enjoyed all the usual animal favourites from cattle, sheep, Highland ponies, Clydesdale and heavy horses, light horses, dogs and even rabbits.

Bob Hogg and his sheepdog demonstration and the Lamb Grand National also took place in the main ring.

And there was plenty nonanimal activity including vintage tractors, a fire engine and car display, crafts and the SWI tent packed with entries from flowers to baking.

Food and drink were flowing from the catering village and beer tent and a host of local organisations, including Trossachs Search and Rescue, pitched their stalls.

The Agricultural Section Prizes were presented by Mr and Mrs Jim Warnock, Jim being the president of RHASS (Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland) and a local farmer from Clackmannan.

A five a-side primary school football competition, and a Young Farmer tug of war competition were draws as was the pet tent, ran in association with RHET (Royal Highland Education Trust) and including lambs, calves, pigs, hens and goats as well as a learning zone with Meet The Vet, sheep, rabbits, bird of prey, and mini Shetland pony.

Along with a funfair the show also featured a bands stage with Acoustic Station, Loch Lomond Ukulele Band and Paul Murdoch.

Children enjoyed the children’s races, fancy dress on horseback and face painting.

A show spokesperson said: “Thank you so much to everyone who came along. It was lovely to welcome everyone and we hope they had a good day. What a brilliant display of livestock - and the sun came out.”

Trossachs Search and Rescue successfully attended to five “casualties” and a missing child while at the event but also enjoyed many visitors to their tent - all keen for a cuddle and a photograph with search dog Bowie.

A TSAR spokesperson said: “Thank you to the organising committee for inviting us along for another year, great fun (and superb lunch bags) as always.

“It is an extremely well organised community event and such great fun as always. As a team, we love the Drymen Show and many of us have been visiting since we were kids.”
