A dynamic Doune continued their relentless pursuit of the Caledonian League Premier Division title with an emphatic win.
They dominated the match with attractive, high-tempo football and thoroughly deserved their comprehensive win that moves them level with East Kilbride YM at the top of the league – with a game in hand over their rivals.
Doune made the crucial breakthrough after 14 minutes. Christopher Macdonald drilled a corner from the right into the sixyard box. Sean Wilbert came off his marker to head high into the net from three yards.
Jack Wardrope made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time with a controlled finish. Wardrope took possession just outside the area, shimmied to change direction and directed a clever finish low into the corner of the net.
It was 3-0 on 57 minutes when Gavin Campbell slid the ball to Christopher Macdonald in space on the right. Macdonald cut the ball back to Alan Inglis who calmly stroked the ball into the net with an assured finish. Doune moved four ahead after 61 minutes. Alan Inglis dispossessed a central defender and raced forward. The keeper did enough to push the ball wide. Christopher Macdonald followed up to rifle the loose ball high into the net off the underside of bar.
After 71 minutes, Doune keeper Allan Pacitti was the unlikeliest of goal scorers when he added the fifth. Pacitti launched a prodigious kick down the centre of the pitch. The ball bounced beyond the desperate reach of the advancing St Joe’s keeper, who could not prevent it from dropping into the unguarded net. A rampant Doune extended their lead two minutes later. Fine play down the right from Lukasz Duszynski saw him square the ball into the middle. Grant Craig darted forwarded to turn the ball home from close-range.
Doune completed the rout four minutes from the end when Grant Craig was brought down from behind for a clear penalty. Tam Nelson gave the keeper no chance, blasting the spot kick high into the net for 7-0.
This was an outstanding performance from Doune, who entertained the large Moray Park crowd with some scintillating football in their quest for the league title.
