Goats, baby chicks and crafts at spring market

-

A Port of Menteith farm is preparing to host its first market of the year.

The event at Fodder + Farmer at Gartur, Dykehead, is set to feature a host of spring-themed activities, market stalls, farm tours - including baby goats - and more, on Saturday March 30 from 10am-5pm.

The farm’s refurbished event barn will bring together the best in local food and craft, including Goat Rodeo Goods, Great Glen Charcuterie, Juno Home Goods, Collymoon Craft Gin, Farrah’s Farm Fresh Dairy and Highland Sea Ceramics.

Upper Ballaird Farm Co-op and Gartur Stitch Farm will be selling seedlings and plant starts and Green Pea Studio will be selling spring floral arrangements for the less green-thumbed customers.

Fodder + Farm’s head chef Lucy Pattinson will be serving seasonal street food alongside Roam Coffee with hot beverages and baked goods.

Throughout the day, Kevin Harrison, the chief goat wrangler, will be leading farm tours and milking demonstrations where visitors will be able to get up close and personal with the smallholding’s friendly herd of dairy goats, newly hatched chicks - and Loretta Lynne“the best looking pig this side of the Forth”.

Lucky folks may even get the chance to milk one of the milking goats - Emmylou Harris. Admission is free, but guests are being asked to reserve a parking space in advance due to limited availability.

Director Kat Goldin said:“we’re thrilled to welcome our community to Fodder & Farm for a day of exploration, education and enjoyment.”

Fodder+farm, Port of Menteith, is a collaboration between private chef Lucy Pattinson and smallholders Kat Goldin and Kevin Harrison at Gartur Stitch Farm.

Lucy said:“since launching Fodder + Farm, Kat, Kevin and myself have been able to collaborate with so many local farmers, growers and artisans to create menus and events that feed your soul and light the fire in your belly.

“It’s pretty cool to be able to invite people in to share good times and great food with us in the barn.”
