Music extravagan­za to mark anniversar­y

Packed weekend of spectacula­r shows to take place

One of Scotland’s most historic locations is set to become the backdrop to a stunning weekend of spectacula­r music shows set to lasers and candleligh­t as part of Stirling’s 900th anniversar­y celebratio­ns.

Stirling Laser Symphonic Spectacula­r will take place at the Holy Rude Church on Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15.

The early Friday 6-7pm show will feature a stunning familyfrie­ndly laser and light show set to well-known pop, dance and musical hits.

This will feature a special performanc­e by young musicians from Big Noise Raploch’s String Ensemble.

Following this at 8pm will be a show of live music with Korda String Quartet illuminate­d by candleligh­t and lasers, playing a programme of classic pop and rock tracks.

Saturday will see an epic live performanc­e from the worldclass Symphonix Rock Orchestra at 8pm who will be set to stun visitors to the ancient venue with live hits from Metallica, AC/DC, Coldplay, Toto, Prince, Queen, Aerosmith, Nirvana and Muse as you’ve never heard them before in a perfect blend of symphony and rock.

Stirling Laser Symphonic Spectacula­r has been organised by local company Media Propaganda in partnershi­p with local business owners Vinney’s Bar and Luna Café.

The event is being supported by Stirling District Tourism.

Media Propaganda managing director James Russell, said there will be something for everyone. He commented:“we are delighted to bring this spectacula­r special weekend of music to the city as part of the Stirling 900 celebratio­ns.

“The ancient past will forge with the present to create a futuristic audio visual extravagan­za, with a selection of exclusive shows providing something for every musical taste.

“The Holy Rude has a significan­t place in Stirling’s history and offers us tremendous creative and curative scope which we will capture in the production of this event and mark this historic occasion in a very memorable way for the people of the city.”

David Black, chair of Stirling District Tourism said: “We are delighted to be working with local event production company Media Propaganda to bring these shows to the Church of the Holy Rude.

“As part of our commitment to promote Stirling’s magnificen­t heritage landscape, this is a truly innovative way to enjoy wonderful entertainm­ent in a stunning historic setting.”

Jo Ashcroft, Head of Centre at Big Noise Raploch and Fallin said: “The young people of Big Noise Raploch are extremely excited to share their music in this beautiful and historic setting, in a visually spectacula­r way they haven’t worked before.” Symphonix Musical Director Neil Thompson, said: “Symphonix is an epic and exciting 30 piece orchestral rock show you won’t want to miss.

“From stunning violinists head-banging to Led Zeppelin, to a phenomenal brass section rockin’ out to Rage Against the Machine, the combined passion and energy from the strings, brass, rock band, vocalists and choreograp­hed choir will have your spirits soaring.”

Another historic local building close to the Holy Rude – Stirling Boys Club – will be open from 5pm on the Friday and 7pm on the Saturday providing a licensed bar, refreshmen­ts and toilet facilities.

Ancient host venue the Holy Rude Church was founded in 1129 and is notable for holding the coronation of the infant King James VI.

The Royal Burgh of Stirling is one of the oldest burghs in Scotland, with 2024 marking its 900th anniversar­y with a series of events taking place across the year.
