Star’s son’s fiancée ‘tried to kill him’

-

THE fiancée of Alex ‘Hurricane’ Higgins’ son has appeared in court accused of attempting to mow him down.

Jordan Higgins, 33, son of the late snooker legend, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries on Saturday, May 21, after being in collision with a car.

Police were called to Eastleigh Road in Heald Green to reports that a man had been involved in a collision with a car.

Mr Higgins was treated for serious injuries including a fractured cheek.

Police have now charged Leigh Amanda Woodyear, understood to be Mr Higgins’ fiancée, with attempted murder.

The 31-year-old appeared before Stockport Magistrates Court on Monday, May 23 and was remanded in custody to appear back before a judge at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court next month.

In a statement, a GMP spokesman said: “Shortly before 10.20pm on Saturday, May 21, police were called to Eastleigh Road, Heald Green to reports that a man had been involved in a collision with a car.

“Officers attended and found a 33-year-old man with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment.”

Known as ‘The People’s Champion’, snooker star Alex Higgins died in 2010, aged 61.

He became the sport’s pin-up boy, winning the World Championship in 1972 and 1982, and was runner-up on a further two occasions.

He was nicknamed ‘Hurricance’ because of his fast playing style.

A renowned heavy smoker and drinker, he was famed for his wild antics during his time as a player.

His son Jordan, who is now recovering from his injuries, was himself jailed in 2014 for 18 months for robbing a newsagent.

A court heard how Higgins was high on drink and drugs when he burst into Cheadle News and grabbed the terrified shopkeeper, Steven Gee, around the throat before dragging him round the back of the counter.

Higgins, who was 31 at the time, was caught after his DNA was found on a car’s airbag as well as a scarf and gloves he had used for the robbery.
